Question 1

What is an eSIM?

Accepted Answer

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card built into your smartphone. Instead of inserting a physical SIM card, you download an eSIM profile to your phone. It takes a few seconds with a QR code, and you are on a local mobile network at your destination straight away.

Question 2

Is my smartphone eSIM compatible?

Accepted Answer

Most recent smartphones support eSIM, including iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and many Huawei models. Check your settings under “Mobile data” or “SIM cards” for an “Add eSIM” option. Your phone must not be locked to a network operator (SIM lock).

Question 3

How do I buy an eSIM from Reisechip?

Accepted Answer

Choose your destination on our website, pick a data plan and complete your purchase. You get an email with a QR code straight away. Scan the QR code with your smartphone and follow the installation steps. The whole setup takes less than 2 minutes.

Question 4

How quickly is the eSIM active after I buy it?

Accepted Answer

You get the QR code and the installation guide by email right after your purchase. Installing takes only a few seconds. The data connection starts once you are in your destination's network area and have turned on data roaming for the eSIM.

Question 5

Is an eSIM cheaper than roaming?

Accepted Answer

Yes, by a lot. With a Reisechip eSIM you save up to 90% compared with your mobile provider's roaming charges. Our plans start from €0.99, with no hidden costs and no automatic renewal.

Question 6

What is the difference between an eSIM and renting a pocket Wi-Fi?

Accepted Answer

An eSIM is loaded onto your smartphone digitally, so you need no extra device. Unlike a rented pocket Wi-Fi, there is nothing to collect, charge or return. You have mobile data on your own phone, wherever you are.

Question 7

Can I use the eSIM as a hotspot?

Accepted Answer

Yes, most of our plans support tethering. You can use your smartphone as a mobile hotspot and connect other devices such as laptops or tablets. Note that using a hotspot increases your data use.

Question 8

Which devices support eSIM?

Accepted Answer

Most recent smartphones support eSIM: iPhone XS and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, and many Huawei models. Your phone must not be SIM-locked. Check under Settings > Mobile Data whether the “Add eSIM” option is there.

Question 9

Do I keep my German phone number with an eSIM?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A travel eSIM is installed as an extra profile on your smartphone. Your existing SIM card and German phone number stay active, so people can still reach you on your number while you use the eSIM for cheaper mobile data.

Question 10

Which payment methods does Reisechip accept?

Accepted Answer

We accept credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, JCB, UnionPay), Apple Pay and PayPal. All payments go through secure, encrypted connections.

Question 11

Which currency are prices shown in?

Accepted Answer

Prices are shown and charged in euros (EUR).

Question 12

Are there any extra fees?

Accepted Answer

No. The price shown is the final price. There are no hidden fees, no activation costs and no automatic renewal. You pay only for what you choose.

Question 13

Can I get a refund?

Accepted Answer

Yes, eSIMs that have not been activated can be refunded within 30 days of purchase. Once an eSIM has been activated (that is, data has been used), a refund is no longer possible. Email kontakt@reisechip.de for refund requests.

Question 14

What speeds does the eSIM offer?

Accepted Answer

Our eSIM plans use the local 4G/LTE networks in each country. Actual speed depends on coverage and location, but is typically between 10 and 50 Mbps, enough for maps, social media, video calls and streaming.

Question 15

Does the eSIM work when I cross between countries?

Accepted Answer

If you bought a regional plan (for example eSIM Europe), the eSIM works seamlessly in every country included in the plan. A country plan (for example eSIM Japan) works only in that country.

Question 16

Can I use the eSIM as a hotspot (tethering)?

Accepted Answer

Yes, most of our plans support tethering. You can use your smartphone as a mobile hotspot and connect other devices such as laptops or tablets. Note that tethering increases your data use.

Question 17

How can I check how much data I have left?

Accepted Answer

You can see your data use in your smartphone's mobile data settings under the eSIM profile. Your Reisechip account also shows your active plans and current usage.

Question 18

My eSIM will not activate. What can I do?

Accepted Answer

First make sure your phone supports eSIM and is not SIM-locked. Check that you have a stable Wi-Fi connection, because the QR code needs internet access to download the eSIM profile. Restart your phone and try again. If the problem continues, contact our support at kontakt@reisechip.de.

Question 19

I installed the eSIM but have no data connection. What now?

Accepted Answer

Check these points: 1) Is data roaming turned on for the eSIM? Go to Settings > Mobile Data > eSIM profile > turn on Data Roaming. 2) Is the eSIM selected for mobile data? 3) Are you inside your plan's coverage area? 4) Restart your phone. If nothing helps, contact our support at kontakt@reisechip.de.

Question 20

How do I remove an eSIM from my phone?

Accepted Answer

Go to Settings > Mobile Data > select the eSIM profile > Remove eSIM. Any remaining data is lost once the profile is removed, and the eSIM profile cannot be downloaded again after it has been deleted.

Question 21

How do I contact Reisechip support?

Accepted Answer

Our support team is available by email around the clock at kontakt@reisechip.de, in English or any other language. Describe your problem as precisely as you can and include your order number and phone model. We usually reply within a few hours.
